Workshop #3 – The Importance of Marshland Restoration with Sketch/Watercolor Site Study
In this workshop we will discuss the important role of wetlands in the context of climate change—as habitat, flood and erosion mitigation, and storm-water filtration. We will introduce CIOR’s proposal for returning the site behind P.S. 175 to a living shoreline, in partnership with the NYC Parks and Recreation and the Billion Oyster Project, by introducing different vegetation zones and by creating sketches and watercolor studies of the site. For beginners, basic landscape painting techniques will be introduced. All participants can expect to leave with a small set of watercolor paints and a deepened appreciation of our shoreline. All ages are welcome.
