Workshop #4 – Sewage, Waste, and Plastics (What’s in the water of the Sound?)

The workshop will help to build awareness of the ways in which plastic waste, marine debris, litter, and even raw sewage enter the waterways of the Long Island Sound. It will explain the dangers of plastic, which never biodegrades but release such toxic additives in the water as flame retardants, antimicrobials, and plasticizers. Many of these chemicals may disrupt the endocrine system, which affects virtually every organ and cell in the bodies of all animals, including humans.
