Carmelia Rodriguez
SCIENCE TEACHER, PS 583
Carmelia Rodriguez has been an educator since 2012, designing interdisciplinary learning experiences that connect classroom instruction, research, and place-based exploration. She provides professional development for educators in both English and Spanish in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and curriculum development. As a proud Bronxite, and lifelong admirer of the Long Island Sound, its shorelines, and natural beauty, she takes pride in being able to explore and teach about programs that contribute to accessibility to healthy waters. She works in partnership with CIOR and other organizations to encourage schools to integrate marine science education within NYC's curriculum. Through ongoing research and investigations supported by CIOR, her goal is to raise community awareness of the importance of oyster restoration and environmental stewardship.
